Who We Help

  • ACCA helps children in need. This “need” may be defined by social conditions, so that means they have to be taken into a home or day care. This need may also be defined by a physical or mental restriction, where the actual physical age may be a mature adult but the mental age still remains very young.
  • All areas have needs, unfortunately in Portugal to date the Governments support is limited and only a fraction of the running costs are covered. These institutions absolutely rely on donations every month to survive and if it was not for our ability to provide replacement equipment when things break or needs change, combined with their employee’s devotion and love this help would purely not exist.
  • The area of mental health is a huge area which needs costly expertise and care dealing with Autism and Syndrome’s which are way beyond the capabilities of a normal working family. Here there exists agencies but again the support from the Government is a small percentage of their real costs, as the ratio of carers to children needed is far higher than those of institutions dealing with children without these conditions.

How We Help

  • The organisations and individuals are never given the funds directly by us. We pay the receipts and expenses they present, from the works done or equipment supplied, after we have seen several different quotes for the work.
  • Alternatively we are often alerted by the local community of specific cases where a child is suffering and the family or institution does not have the funds to help the individual. Once we have examined and agreed the procedure and case we then get involved directly, to see where we can assist.
  • We also work in unison with other organisations that support charities such as NECI, ASCA and The ROTARY Club, to ensure if we find a cause which does not involve children the cause is not ignored and to make sure we are not duplicating our efforts.

How ACCA Can Help You

Process of approving a charity or individual that ACCA will help

If you know of a worthy cause or if you are a charity that needs help, in the first instance email us and let us know what your specific need is. Once we have heard and understood the issue we will internally decide.

  • a) If your issue is within our remit of children in the Algarve
  • b) We will have to consider the specific nature of the request. If that is approved, we will look to visit personally to understand at first hand the issue and how help could be best delivered.
