Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a few of the questions we're asked on a regular basis that we thought might be useful.

Where does my money go if I just donate to the central ACCA Fund ?

ACCA donates to a wide range of causes but we keep a very detailed record of every transaction, both incoming and outgoing. It may be that your donation goes part way to funding a larger project, or you may prefer to see something more tangible arise as a result of your generosity. Either way, we have an open book policy and you are welcome to talk to us at any time about how you would like your donation to be used.

How do I know that the institutions to whom you donate are genuine?

Three members of the ACCA committee visit each institution or organization that requests help. This ensures a balanced view and it means that we can be more thorough in our investigation. We aim to visit each institution at least once a year. This is not only to verify their claims are valid, but also because it allows us to develop a closer relationship with them and to identify where they really need help. We are not a political organization and don’t intend to become one. Our priority is to help the children.

How do you know that the children benefit directly from money that is donated?

Easily. We rarely donate money and never without receipts detailing exact items purchased . We usually find out what item is needed and purchase it ourselves. That way we can be sure that we are getting value for money and that the children benefit entirely. Where institutions or families request us to pay bills, we always insist on a copy of the bill and/or a receipt for all bills paid.

I want to help but I just don’t have much spare time. What can I do?

No matter how little time you think you have get in touch. Even if you can only spare the odd hour here or there, there is every chance you can make a real difference. Simple things like picking up toys that have been donated and taking them to a collection point, handing out water at our annual fun run, coming along on day trips to help us supervise the kids etc.

I would like to do something, but don't have much money. What do you suggest?

You can become a Member for just 5 euros per month or 60 euros paid annually. Our membership donations give us a guaranteed level of income, which we can allocate to long term and ongoing projects, like our Halfway House, leaving our fund-raising and other donations to go to one off situations, like an operation for a child.

Which institutions do you work with?

We really do work with many institutions and so it is impossible to list them all here. But take a look at the page entitled ‘Who We Help’. It will give you an idea of the variety of places we are involved in. And, if you know of any who you think need our help, then don’t hesitate to let us know.

If I know of a family or child that needs help urgently can I contact ACCA?

Absolutely! We obviously have certain criteria we need to meet to ensure that the funds kindly donated by our supporters are spent effectively. But our projects team can help you to evaluate this and can even visit the family with you to understand their situation better.

Is there an agenda for your fundraising events, how can we know in advance what will be organised and when?

Our events do change every year and we are always keen to hear about new idea. But if you want to know what we have planned take a look at the Events section of our website. We will also send regular reminders to our paid up members, so if you want to be sure to hear about all the exciting events we have planned, why not join?

If I want to donate/give away clothes and furniture who can I contact?

In fact you can contact any member of the ACCA committee, whose details are on the Contact Us page.p>
